Mirror Grinding

Several members of the club grind their own mirrors for home made telescopes.  Mirror grinding is a long and laborious, albeit rewarding, process.  Round disks of glass are ground to a parabolic shape (a shape that brings parallel rays of light to a focus) and then sent away to be "silvered".  The "silvered" mirrors are to be used for Newtonian style reflecting telescopes.
